Maryse Pulls Us Down Under!
Do you know of the early morning chickadee tweets, chirping cicadas and the hot sting of the sun- the sweat that sticks your clothes to your skin, your hair to your forehead? Or maybe you are, perhaps, more familiar with late evening buzz of fireflies, asps slithering through the grass, scratchy-scratching of the marsupials, as they scrounge around in the bushes for another bite to eat?
An idyllic setting, perhaps too whimsical for some, but the space where Maryse is likely to feel most at home. A green-thumbed artist in her own right, with a deep-seated affinity for the flora and fauna of her home Australia, Maryse shares with the Personas that intuitive call to nature, and responds with a resounding hoot, thump and holler of her own!
Professionally a nature and wildlife photographer, Maryse has dedicated herself to documenting the wonders of the world that can be found in the forests of Queensland, Australia. She is our graceful guide through the forest, a woman who has dedicated herself to the creation of documentaries and sharing the beauty of her little slice of the world. Her “Walk Through the Australian Bush” series allows us to follow her on this journey, as if we were communing with the animals themselves!
Footage in crystal clear definition, we can see lizards traipsing through the bush, bats clinging to packmates for warmth, birds building nests, these instances of nature we might’ve not otherwise gleaned, all thanks to the eagle eye of Maryse’s trusty camera.
Armed with a camera since 9, Maryse used to spend her time taking and developing photos of anything she could get her hands on. Herself, friends, family, and of course the beauty of nature. The hobby was quite expensive at the time, but that only made her more diligent, more careful. Eventually with the creation of digital photography, she would see her interest blossom into more than a pastime, but a lifelong passion and profession.
“You can imagine how excited I was when digital photography came around… when I could play with it to my heart’s content.”
She finds her calling in photos, in a way she doesn’t quite click with traditional drawings. However, her past art studies contribute to her bigger picture, allowing her to tap into a new dimension, a new way of analyzing and perceiving her works.
“Sometimes when you take a photo, it’s easy to think ‘I’ve gotten everything captured here’, but when you make a drawing, you have to look at every single detail.”
Having moved to Australia from the Netherlands, a mother to a young child, Maryse began seeing the world through fresh eyes. Impressed with the beauty and uniqueness of Australian nature, Maryse chose on one fateful day in 2009, to dedicate herself to spreading the word.
And the Personas couldn’t be happier!
