This exhibition is the creative output of Stewart Wilson's Artist Residency with the School of Visual Arts RisoLab. During his eight weeks of work there, Stewart produced twenty-three sets of Persona "print-drawings.” Personas, Stewart's representatives from another dimension, have been his subject matter for over forty years. To date, he has created over 31,000 Persona sculptures, drawings, paintings, prints and tableaus which have been exhibited and distributed world-wide. His artworks has been featured in the New York Times and Daily News and many publications.Stewart came to the School of Visual Arts RisoLab seeking to repeat his playful relationship in the 80's with the Xerox 6500 color copier. He believes that by discovering the anima of such machines, the artist can liberate them from their expected functionality for purely artistic explorations. Thus Stewart devised his Persona print-drawings, merging the human and machine into a spirited medley. You can visit this show until December 11 at the Open Center of New York, 22 East 30th Street, NYC.
